Improving Writing Skills

Children learn how to write by writing. The more practice your child on writing about something, the more his skills would improve. One way to encourage your child or student to write is to create digital stories through Little Bird Tales. This web based digital story telling platform lets your kids upload photos or their artwork (scan them beforehand) or create their illustrations through Little Bird Tales Art Pad. They can record their voice and add text to each page of their story as well as share their story once they are done.
Since children find it easier to write about their experiences, why not encourage them to write a story on their family, friends, relatives or on themselves. For Mother's day for example you and your child can upload pictures of you together say on a holiday or even just his art works of what you do together or about you. For your student you can scan pictures of your students Moms' or if that is not possible their artworks about their Mom. It would be fun recording your kids voice and have them write about you or in the case of teachers your students' mothers. Doing this will improve your kids self esteem. They not only produce something but the writing sample is important and relevant to them.

Of course not every classroom have more than one computer so for the sake of having something to put on your bulletin board and in their writing portfolio you can download a hard copy of writing templates like the Acrostic Form: Mom so one group can write a poem about their mother. For more advanced writers, they can use the Note to My Mom template or the Mother's Day writing paper. You can even make an accordion book with the pictures of their Mom in the cover and their writing on each leaf.
